Program Description:
A panel of IT experts will discuss the current trends and ethical issues surrounding technology and how this impacts today’s workplace. Trending IT issues of cybersecurity, data privacy, working from home, social media@work and many other issues will be discussed.
About the Panelists:
Rick J. Bennett (moderator) joined Matrix Service Company as Vice President and Chief Information Officer in 2014. Prior to Matrix, Rick served ten years as the Chief Information Officer at T.D. Williamson based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His past professional achievements include Information Technology leadership positions at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma, Blakely Crop Hail Insurance, National Farmers Organization, Taylor Ball Construction Management and The Principal Financial Group.
Mr. Bennett holds a Masters of Energy Business (MEB) degree from the University of Tulsa, has obtained an Executive Certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, and achieved his Bachelors of Business from Western Illinois University majoring in Management Information Systems and minoring in Computer Science. Early in his career he served in the United States Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician. A father of three, Bennett serves as past-Chairman of the Board for Junior Achievement of Eastern Oklahoma and the Deans Council for Northeastern State University College of Business and Technology.
Matt Harper is a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) with more than 20 years of achievement driving IT security strategy in both the private and public sectors through the identification, investigation and mitigation of digital security risks. As a CISO with a background in cybersecurity with the FBI, Matt capitalizes on experience in both the public and private sectors to create risk mitigation strategy and controls that empower businesses to function at their best.
Presently, Matt leverages expertise in cybersecurity and risk mitigation to pilot Devon Energy’s enterprise IT risk management program, owning Cybersecurity, Continuity of Operations, IT Compliance and Governance functions. Throughout the ten years Matt has led corporate strategy and risk governance for the Fortune 500 company, his mission has been to enable uninterrupted business operations through risk assessment and mitigation, threat identification, data protection and intrusion prevention. During his tenure, he developed an industry-leading security program that includes highly automated security operations and incident response, cloud security and a business-friendly risk assessment strategy.
As a thought leader and executive team member, Matt brings a pragmatic approach to devising solutions that address security risks. His multi-faceted experience gives him valuable insights and a comprehensive understanding of the emerging challenges businesses face in today’s rapidly-evolving world.
Prior to joining the leadership at Devon, Matt served as one of the FBI’s first cyber agents and Cyber Action Team members, where he investigated actors targeting critical US infrastructures. As a Cyber Agent, Matt began his FBI career supporting a broad range of counterintelligence and counter-terrorism investigations, including the 9/11 attacks. Matt was selected to direct programs that included Critical Incident Response, Field Intelligence and Weapons of Mass Destruction. This experience, along with education and training at the FBI CISO Academy, equipped Matt with a deep understanding of large-scale, global threats and the strategic efforts to mitigate them.
Matt’s experience with the FBI also instilled in him an appreciation for the value of cross-sector teamwork. Throughout his career, Matt has gained exposure to the benefits of collaborating on threat intelligence, as well as mitigation techniques and technologies. He is committed to leveraging partnerships in both the public and private sectors with an aim towards advancing the sharing of information and insights to boost security and reduce risk.
The driving principle of teamwork and collaboration drove Matt to contribute to the foundation of the Oil and Natural Gas Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ONG-ISAC). He continues to serve as Vice Chair for the nonprofit organization that aims to use information sharing to enhance industry cyberthreat intelligence and prevention. Matt also founded the Oklahoma chapter of InfraGard, which formed an cyber intelligence alliance between the FBI and private organizations to enhance critical national infrastructure threat awareness.
Matt has served as a subject matter expert in cybersecurity, threat intelligence and automation as a presenter and panelist at numerous conferences, tradeshows and industry events. In 2020, he received recognition as a “Top 100 CISO” by Cyber Defense magazine after being nominated by his peers.
Early in his career Kent Nabors worked in bank examinations for the FDIC and the Federal Reserve Bank. After a shift to technology, he went on to lead the networking infrastructure team for MidFirst Bank, then built their cyber security practice and later served as the institution’s first CISO. After over 20 years in the banking industry, he now serves as the cyber security leader for Hobby Lobby with over 900 locations and a significant e-commerce presence. Kent is also the co-author of Dissecting the Hack: The F0rb1dd3n Network. When not practicing cyber security, Kent is an occasional speaker on the topic for industry, university, and civic organizations. In what spare time remains, Kent owns a local small business with his wife, is a proud dad and grandpa, and is known to make piles of dust in his woodshop. He received his MBA from the University of Oklahoma and his Bachelors from Southern Nazarene University.
Erin Rogers is Senior Vice President and Director of Cyber Security Risk and Compliance at BOK Financial. In this role, Erin leads the organization’s Security Risk Management, Data Analytics, and Identity & Access Management teams. With almost 20 years of experience, Erin has led many successful initiatives in IT and security compliance, privacy, risk mitigation, access management and governance, operational effectiveness, and vendor risk management.
Before joining BOK Financial, Erin served for more than 12 years in a range of audit roles at Ernst & Young. Most recently, Erin was a Senior Manager in EY’s IT Risk and Assurance practice, serving clients in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. These engagements consisted of integrated financial audits as well as assisting clients in the issuance of their SOC1 reports.
Erin graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Accounting and a concentration in Internal Audit.
Matt Singleton is the Chief Information Security Officer for the State of Oklahoma. He is charged with leading all cybersecurity defensive efforts, offensive operations and compliance/privacy practices. Since taking this position, he has overseen the state’s efforts to push 32,000 employees to work securely and effectively from home during the global pandemic, established the state’s first enterprise fraud prevention, detection, and investigation program, launched the Oklahoma Information Sharing and Analysis Center (OK-ISAC), and completely rebuilt Oklahoma Cyber Command with best-of-breed cybersecurity tools, expanded partnerships, and a diverse, world-class team.
Previously, as Chief Operations and Accountability Officer for the state’s information services division, Matt oversaw the technology operations for 189 executive branch agencies and affiliates. In that role he executed the unification of 110 IT organizations across the state, realized over $875M in cost-savings and was featured in the Wall Street Journal best-seller, “One Mission: How Leaders Build a Team of Teams” by Chris Fussell.
Prior to joining the State, Matt excelled as an IT leader for the University of Oklahoma. Notably, playing a central role in establishing OU's cybersecurity program, the OU Cyber-Forensics Lab and OU’s highly popular technology retail store which ranked as the #1 institutionally managed Apple reseller in the Southeast. Matt also provided critical leadership for the development of one of the first iPhone apps for higher education (OU2GO).
Matt has a master’s degree in Applied Intelligence, specializing in Cyber Intelligence, Homeland Security, and Counterterrorism from Georgetown University; a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s certificate in IT service management and numerous other industry certifications.
